Deutschland's largest private theatre
A major Hamburg institution for German-language stagings of modern works and revivals of the classics, started by Wolfgang Borchert and Friedrich Schütter in 1951 as Das Junge Theater, then in 1973 renamed after Austrian-Jewish stage and film actor Ernst Deutsch (1890-1969), who fled Germany in 1933 but returned from America after the war.
