Metropolis Kino

(1 Rating)
Hamburg's premier cinema

A special one-screen cinema marked by a serious commitment to old films – including tributes and themed seasons – and new releases, in the original language (with subtitles) where possible. Opened in 1979 in a 1950s movie house that originally ran a non-stop programme of news, cartoons, features etc on a loop, in the days before television. Foyer and bar are classic Fifties. In 1990 the Metropolis aligned itself with what is now called the Lesbisch Schwule Filmtage Hamburg / International Queer Film Festival. U-Bahn stations: Gänsemarkt and Stephansplatz.
