A major arts complex for contemporary art, photography and design since 1989, set in two steel-and-glass buildings built between 1911 and 1914 and originally used as market spaces. One of the structures stages exhibitions showcasing big-name German and international artists (Andy Warhol, Marc Chagall, Martin Kippenberger, Cindy Sherman, Louise Bourgeois, Andreas Gursky, Wolfgang Tillmans etc) while the other, Haus der Photographie, celebrates all that is photographic. There is no permanent collection per se. Opens late (until 9pm) every first Thursday of the month. Closed Monday.
