A 20th-century post-fire-and-bombing reconstruction of a 1786 church which itself replaced a church destroyed by fire in 1661, St Michael's remains a Hamburg landmark, especially with its 132-meter-high copper spire. The clock tower can be climbed for excellent panoramic views, while the sizeable church interior offers a certain baroque-style beauty, particularly noted for its magnificent wavy gallery.
