Bucerius Kunst Forum

A relatively recent addition to the city's art scene, this exhibition space, opened in 2002, is named after Hamburg benefactor, politician and journalist Gerd Bucerius (1906–95), who in 1946 co-founded national newspaper Die Zeit. The Kunst Forum stages three or four carefully curated themed exhibitions per year, in conjuction with other museums and institutions. The former Reichsbank building, completed in 2019, is not vast, and exhibitions are likewise not on a grand scale. Previous exhibitions include David Hockney, photographers Anton Corbijn and Herbert List, the era of Augustus, American pop art, the birth of the art market, industrial themes, Dionysus, ingenious women and followers of Bosch. Located directly adjacent to the Rathaus in the Altstadt.
