Cafe Spund

No ratings yet
Gay café-bar since 1974

Opened in 1974, in the same year as Toms Saloon [see entry], Café Spund is Germany's longest-serving daytime gay café, formerly the domain of Jürgen Hauptmann, who died in 2013, and now overseen by Jurik Suchan. It's only a short walk from the Hauptbahnhof (Central Station), serves home-made soups, salads and cakes, and has surely earned its place in German gay history. Doubles as a bar, true to the German concept of 'cafe-bar'. Closed Sunday.
